Calgary Sexual Health Centre, 301 14 St NW; free parking on 2nd Ave after 6 pm
Beginning last summer, the women of our community met up at the Calgary Sexual Health Centre to begin the discussion about sexual violence occurring in the arts community and how to take action to prevent it. Out of these meetings was borne the Theatre Arts Collective for Consent and Respect (TAC), a committee formed to help shape policy, provide an avenue for advocacy, and act as a conduit between Calgary theatre artists, companies, and related organizations regarding gender, sexuality, sexual conduct, and sexual violence.
Additionally, we see the value in continuing to hold a safe space for people to discuss current concerns, new experiences, and to provide ongoing feedback to influence future action by TAC and Calgary Sexual Health Centre.
What we’ve seen is that people just need to talk. We aim to provide a supportive and collaborative environment for these conversations to happen. This is not a facilitated group counselling session - this is a space to share and/or listen.
If you are looking for a safe space to discuss these issues we welcome you to attend any upcoming Community Consent Conversation. We're planning to host them the second Monday of every month but will post specific dates here as they are confirmed.
Please remember that you are welcome to share this date and time with any women identifying, gender queer, non-binary and trans individuals in our community. Concurrently there will be a similar group for male-identifying individuals. Please contact Stafford at firstname.lastname@example.org for more info.
These meet ups are confidential and protected by qualified privilege. The only information that will be shared is our collective feedback about how to take action to end sexual violence in our community.
