Mission Statement: To help shape best practices, provide an avenue for advocacy, and act as a conduit between Calgary theatre artists, companies, and related organizations regarding respectful behaviour and consent.
Who we are: An informal volunteer group of theatre artists, administrators, and community partners who have gathered in response to concerns about sexualized violence, sexual harassment, gender inequality, and issues of consent in Calgary’s theatre community.
We believe that practices and policies which create safer spaces, promote consent, and respect individual boundaries will ultimately lead to more successful artistic processes and better theatre.
To advocate for greater consent and respect in theatre, in 2019 we will …
- Create a resource map detailing existing information, resources, and support for the full theatre community, inclusive of people who have experienced sexual harassment or abuse, people who are concerned about creating safer workplaces, and theatre organizations
- Identify gaps in current resources based on our working map
- Host 2-3 community meet-ups and workshops to address gaps
- Develop 1-2 targeted policies to address gaps
