A Note to Our Community: After a year in existence, the members of TAC gathered for a day-long strategic planning session. We emerged with a renewed focus and even a new name! We are now CART (Consent and Respect in Theatre). You can expect more from us in the next months as we work to create a comprehensive guide to resources in our community and share results from our first pilot best practices.
Mission Statement: To help shape best practices, provide an avenue for advocacy, and act as a conduit between Calgary theatre artists, companies, and related organizations regarding respectful behaviour and consent.
Who we are: An informal group of theatre artists, administrators, and community partners who have gathered in response to concerns about sexualized violence, sexual harassment, gender inequality, and issues of consent in Calgary’s theatre community.
We believe that practices and policies which create safer spaces, promote consent, and respect individual boundaries will ultimately lead to more successful artistic processes and better theatre.
What we do:
- Connect theatre community members who experience sexual harassment or abuse to existing information, resources, and support including workshops and community meetups hosted by Calgary organizations.
- Research, develop, pilot, and advocate for new practices, policies, and professional codes of conduct to promote respectful behaviour and consent within theatrical practices.
